Capture and desktop tools
Rectangle, freeform, scrolling capture, GIF, fixed shapes, delay, whiteboard, and measurement.
Rectangle capture
For windows, UI elements, and any rectangle. Windows and macOS both recognize windows or controls, and you can also drag freely.
Freeform capture
Pen path is best for clicking a closed outline. Free path is best for a hand-drawn region. Press X in the capture UI to switch.
Scrolling capture
For web pages, documents, and chat history. Vertical and horizontal scrolling are supported, and consecutive frames help detect the end.
GIF recording
For short action demos. Choose duration and frame rate. Large selections automatically lower the actual sample rate.
Fixed shape
Creates a regular 4-gon by default. The tray menu can set 3–64 sides. Area outside the shape stays transparent.
Delayed capture
Freezes the screen after a countdown. Useful for menus, hover tips, and placing the mouse first.
Whiteboard
Freezes the current display so you can annotate windows or the desktop on one canvas. The background can move, and zoom ranges from 5% to 800%.
Scale, square, and angle
Measure length, right angles, and included angles on the desktop. Custom sizes also offer logo, icon, and saved width/height presets.
HDR and hide-on-capture
HDR/EDR displays need no special mode. Snipkap converts the desktop to an SDR result suitable for images, the clipboard, and pins. If Windows Advanced Color capture fails, that capture fails outright instead of substituting an overexposed fallback.
Hide-on-capture is on by default. Starting any capture temporarily hides Snipkap windows, including Settings, Help, the History Dock, and pins. They come back after capture finishes or is cancelled. The windows are not destroyed. Turn it off in Settings → General.
Delay and custom size
Delayed capture defaults to 2.0 seconds and accepts 0–120. Selection chrome and HUDs hide before the frame is frozen. 0.0 captures immediately.
Tray Custom offers logo, icon, and saved sizes. The UI range for a new size is 2..20000. CLI / URL width and height use 1..32768.
