Multi-content desktop pins

Pin screenshots, text, files, colors, and Markdown on the desktop for comparison.

Click Pin on the capture toolbar, or use the global pin shortcut, to pin the current capture, selected text in the foreground app, files selected in Finder or File Explorer, plus clipboard images, files, colors, Markdown, code, and LaTeX. Long content automatically fits the visible area of the current display. New pins show a short blue glow.

The Windows installer adds “Pin with Snipkap” to the classic Explorer menu. macOS offers the same name under Finder Services.

Read order

  1. A completed selection in the current capture session.
  2. Selected text in the foreground app, or files selected in Finder, File Explorer, or on the desktop.
  3. Clipboard files, in-memory images, color values, or Markdown text.

At most 256 paths. With 16 items or fewer, decodable local images become separate image pins and the rest merge into a file list. Text, Markdown, and formulas are capped at 4000 Unicode characters.

Content-specific actions

  • File pins keep the system icon and can copy the full path, open, reveal in the folder, or open with another app.
  • Color pins can copy HEX, HEXA, RGB, RGBA, HSL, HSLA, HSB, CMYK, and Lab.
  • Markdown and code pins can select and copy text while holding Ctrl/Command.

A successful Save Image keeps the pin selected and does not close it. Re-edit has no full-screen mask; the toolbar docks under the canvas. Finish or cancel restores the pre-edit position and size.

Settings → General can turn on “Recognize text after pinning”. Then drag over recognized text and use the right-click menu to copy or translate.

Group switching, show/hide, layout groups, and align/distribute are in Pin groups and layout.

Cannot click a pin after click-through?

That is expected. Press the global P shortcut once, or choose Restore click-through pins from the tray or menu bar.
