Settings and troubleshooting
Tray settings, plus common issues for launch, shortcuts, scrolling capture, GIF, and Smart Paste.
From the tray or menu bar you can change: interface language, launch at startup, Smart Paste, hide-on-capture, shortcuts, watermark / stickers / annotation toolbar, translation, permissions (macOS), restore click-through pins, help, and about. Smart Paste and “Record clipboard” are off by default. Hide-on-capture is on by default.
Snipkap is a tray app and has no persistent main window. Check the Windows notification area or the macOS menu bar. If it is already running, launching again only wakes the existing instance.
Another app may already own the global shortcut. Open tray Settings → Shortcuts and set a new combination. Global shortcuts and in-app shortcuts cannot overlap.
Both Windows and macOS recognize windows and controls. macOS also needs Accessibility. You can adjust UI recognition stability in Settings → General on both platforms.
Dynamic loading, sticky overlays, video, and complex animation make adjacent-frame matching harder. Do not scroll extra in auto mode. In manual mode, only move in the chosen direction. Let the page settle, then press Esc if you need to keep what you already captured.
That is expected. Toolbar Save writes a file and does not close capture or the pin, so you can keep annotating or save again. Copy, pin, and dismiss end the current capture.
Pin groups restore their records, but saved pins stay hidden by default. Press Ctrl+H to show the current group. Several groups can be visible at once. See Pin groups and layout.
Large selections trigger shared-memory and frame-rate protection, which lowers the sample rate. That keeps memory and file size in check. A smaller recording area raises the actual frame rate.
The option is off by default. Turn it on in Settings → General first, then confirm the target is a normal writable folder, focus is in the file view, and the clipboard holds an in-memory image. Search results, virtual folders, input fields, cloud locations, or unclear paths keep the system paste.
Open Settings → General and choose Simplified Chinese or English at the top. The first launch follows the system language; later launches remember your choice. The tray, settings, help, and annotation hints switch together.
“Record clipboard” is off by default. After you enable it, clipboard images and text are stored in local history; file lists and content written by Snipkap itself are skipped. With the Dock open, press Ctrl+F to search text records and images that have already been recognized.
Currently only 64-bit Windows 10 1607 or later and macOS 12.3 or later. Linux is not supported yet.
